  2. Installing the Printer Driver
  3.  
  4. Refer to the QuickDraw GX Printer Driver Installation Instruction sheet for instructions on installing printer drivers. If you want to do a custom install, see "Using the Customize Option" in this chapter of the ReadMe file.

  6. Follow these steps before you install the printer software:
  7.  
  8. 1. Make a copy of the driver disk.
  9. Refer to your Macintosh user窶冱 guide for instructions on making copies of disks.
  10.  
  11. 2. Make sure you have at least 10 MB of free hard disk space available.
  12.  
  13. 3. Turn off any virus protection programs and quit any open applications.
  14.  
  15. Using the Easy Install
  16. Use Easy Install to install all of the HP DeskWriter Series printer drivers available for QuickDraw GX. This option is the default.
  17.  
  18. 1. Insert the Install disk and double-click the Installer icon.
  19.  
  20. 2. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  21.  
  22. Using the Custom Option
  23. Use the Custom option to install the specific printer driver you want to install. To use the Customize option, follow these steps:

  25. 1. Insert the Install disk into the disk drive and double-click its icon to open it.
  26.  
  27. 2. Double-click the Installer icon.
  28.  
  29. 3. Make sure that the hard disk named on the Installer screen is the one on which you want to install the  printer software. If the wrong hard disk is named, click the Switch Disk button until the correct hard disk name appears.

  31. 4. Select Custom Install from the pop-up menu on the left.
  32.  
  33. 5. Select the driver(s) for the printer model(s) you want to install.
  34.  
  35. 6. Click the Install button to install the selected driver(s).
  36.  
  37. 7. The Installer displays a warning message.  Click the Continue button.
  38. When the installation process is complete, the Installer displays a message indicating the installation was successful. 
  39.  
  40. 8. Click the Restart button to restart your computer. You must restart your computer before you can use any of the drivers you just installed.
  41.  
  42. Deleting Extra Printer Drivers
  43. If you have limited hard disk space, you may want to delete printer drivers that you don't use.
  44.  
  45. To delete extra printer drivers:
  46.  
  47. 1. Open the System Folder.
  48.  
  49. 2. Locate and open the Extensions folder in the System Folder.
  50.  
  51. 3. Locate the icon for the printer driver you want to delete.
  52.  
  53. 4. Drag the icon  to the Trash, then choose Empty Trash from the Special menu.
  54.  
  55. 5. Close the Extensions folder and the System Folder.
